Born in Austria in 1889, <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/adolf-hitler\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2935\">Adolf Hitler<\/a> served for Germany in <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/world-war-i-overview\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1043\">World War I<\/a> and later joined the German Workers Party in 1919, which later became the National Socialist German Workers Party (<a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/nazi-party\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2979\">Nazi Party<\/a>). Hitler quickly rose through the ranks of the Nazi Party and after becoming leader promoted a political platform based on ultranationalism, <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/anti-semitism-in-the-holocaust\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3279\">anti-Semitism<\/a>, anti-communism, and the complete rejection of the terms of the <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/treaty-of-versailles\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"897\">Treaty of Versailles<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ADOLF HITLER&#8217;S RISE TO POWER &#8211; JOINS THE NAZI PARTY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hitler began his rise to power in German politics after serving for Germany in World War I.\u00a0 In the summer of 1921, he assumed control of the political party called the &#8216;National Socialist German Workers Party&#8217; (<a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/nazi-party\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2979\">Nazi Party<\/a>) and began to work to increase its prominence in German politics.\u00a0 He did this by delivering his characteristic public speeches concerning his views on the state of Germany.\u00a0 Hitler was masterful at public speaking in that he was charismatic and impassioned when he spoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Adolf-Hitler-Quote-3.jpg\" alt=\"Adolf Hitler Quote 3\" class=\"wp-image-5189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Adolf-Hitler-Quote-3.jpg 960w, https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Adolf-Hitler-Quote-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Adolf-Hitler-Quote-3-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ADOLF HITLER&#8217;S RISE TO POWER &#8211; HITLER YOUTH AND THE S.A.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, Hitler worked to create and develop two important organizations for the Nazi Party.\u00a0 Near the end of 1922 and the beginning of 1923, he formed the basics of what would eventually become the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/hitler-youth\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3302\">Hitler Youth<\/a>.\u00a0 This was a paramilitary youth organization that promoted the ideals of fascism and the Nazi Party in general. \u00a0The Hitler Youth existed from 1922 to 1945 and was the second oldest paramilitary Nazi group, founded one year after its adult counterpart, the\u00a0<em>Sturmabteilung\u00a0<\/em>(the S.A.). It was made up of different sections for male youth ages 14\u201318; younger boys for ages 10\u201314; and a general girls section. The Hitler Youth were viewed as future &#8220;Aryan supermen&#8221; and were indoctrinated in anti-Semitism. (Colorized by historycrunch.com)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ADOLF HITLER&#8217;S RISE TO POWER &#8211; BEER HALL PUTSCH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspired partially by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/benito-mussolini\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3459\">Benito Mussolini<\/a>\u00a0in Italy, Hitler decided in 1923 that the Nazi Party would need to seize power in Germany through the use of force.\u00a0 In November of 1923 Hitler and the S.A. led the <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/beer-hall-putsch\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3356\">Beer Hall Putsch<\/a>, which was the Nazi Party\u2019s attempt to overrun the German government and assume control for itself.\u00a0 The Beer Hall Putsch was a failure and Hitler was put on trial for treason.\u00a0 In a rather spectacular trial in which Hitler endeavoured to turn the tables and put democracy and the Weimar Republic (German Government) on trial as traitors to the German people, he was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment.\u00a0 He was well-treated in prison, had a room with a view of the river, wore a tie, received visitors to his chambers and was permitted the use of a private secretary.\u00a0 He was eventually paroled, served only a little over eight months after his sentencing in early 1924.\u00a0 Hitler used the time in prison to consider his political strategy and write the first volume of his book <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/mein-kampf\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3330\">Mein Kampf<\/a> (My Struggle), which was an autobiographical account of his movement and its underlying ideology.\u00a0 Hitler\u2019s ideology at the time centered on extreme German nationalism, <a href=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/anti-semitism-in-the-holocaust\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3279\">anti-Semitism<\/a>, anti-communism and Lebensraum (Living Space).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Beer-Hall-Putsch-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Beer Hall Putsch\" class=\"wp-image-5204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Beer-Hall-Putsch-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Beer-Hall-Putsch-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Beer-Hall-Putsch-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/crunchlearning.com\/website_ec2cbfb0\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Beer-Hall-Putsch.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Members of the SA who participated in the events of the Beer Hall Putsch.
